The La Battistina estate consists of 26ha of mature vineyard including 5ha in Gavi del Comune di Gavi. The property was acquired by leading Piemonte producer Araldica in 2002, establishing their reputation as a Gavi specialist, with the largest vineyard holdings in the region. The best Cortese grapes from some of the older vines are selected at the La Battistina estate. These are typically sourced from the higher vineyards with poor chalky soil – hence ‘Bricco’ – which refers to the crown of the hill in Piemontese dialect. The wine is part-fermented in 2nd year barriques, and the rest in small tanks with extended lees contact.
Aromas of citrus and stone fruit with light oaky notes. The palate has ripe orchard fruits and fresh balancing acidity – to give a complex and textural wine with perfectly integrated oak. A good match for roast chicken or pork dishes.
