In November 2020 a severe frost proved calamitous to the young buds, followed by flailing hail and then major drought in the three months prior to the 2021 harvest. Much of this inclemency is down to the clouds that define New Zealand’s climate and, after all, its Maori name. 2021 was a cruelly short vintage yet the resulting available fruit proved packed with concentrated flavour. The organic farming seems to capture more texture and this is a deliciously limpid, zesty Sauv replete with classic Marlborough aromatics and pink grapefruit notes on the palate.
Pairs well with pad thai, thai fish cakes or any dishes with south-east Asian flavours such as lime, chilli and coriander.
