The Cardoso Pinto family have five generations of winemaking and vinegrowing experience. António Cardoso Pinto fell in love with the property on his first visit, and his eldest daughter, Rita, manages the winery along with her two siblings – Ana and Francisco. They follow a traditional winemaking philosophy of minimal intervention; use only indigenous yeasts, and carry out fermentation in concrete tanks. Pronounced aromas of bramble fruit and violet with balsamic notes. More blackberry and raspberry characters on the palate, balanced by ripe plum and a hint of dark chocolate and tobacco. A rich, ripe red with fine tannins, vibrant acidity and good length. It spent nine months ageing in third year French oak barrels. Great with lamb or beef dishes, perhaps Portuguese lamb stew (Chanfana).
